Medjugorje, Bosnia & Herzegovina

About the Location

Medjugorje, a small town in Bosnia and Herzegovina, has become a global center of prayer and spiritual renewal. Marked by a history of conflict, including the 1990s Bosnian War, the nation continues to grapple with the aftermath of the war and its enduring divisions. During a 2003 visit, Saint John Paul II called for “mutual forgiveness” to rebuild peace.

At the heart of Medjugorje is Saint James Church, home to Comunità Regina della Pace’s Eucharistic Monstrance, and a spiritual hub for millions of pilgrims, many drawn by reports of Marian apparitions.

About the Altar

Donated by Polish pilgrims in 2011 on the 30th anniversary of the Marian apparitions, this crystal monstrance at St. James Church in Medjugorje symbolizes Mary carrying Jesus beneath her heart. Entitled, “Our Lady Queen of Peace,” the monstrance is adorned with 12 meteorites and evokes the biblical image of Mary crowned with 12 stars. The gemstone colors reflect specific meanings: white for purity, yellow for God's glory, green for hope and virginity, and blue for faithfulness and divine connection.
